Portland State University’s track and field teams delivered notable performances at the Husky Classic, held at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle on February 13-14, 2026.
Senior Emma Stolte recorded the second-fastest women’s mile time in Portland State history, finishing in 4:39.65. This result was a personal best by 15 seconds for Stolte and placed her just outside the top ten in the Big Sky Conference record book. She now ranks third in the conference this season behind two Northern Arizona athletes.
On the men’s side, Abdinajib Abade and Ari Smith competed in the same section of the mile. Abade finished sixth in his heat with a time of 4:12.58, which was a significant improvement over his previous best and moved him to seventh all-time among Portland State milers. Ari Smith set a new freshman record for Portland State with a time of 4:15.72.
Abade also anchored the men’s 4×400-meter relay team, joined by freshmen Zach Payne and Jack Macdonald, along with sophomore Dillon Brost. The team won their event with a time of 3:24.18, narrowly beating two Stanford teams.
The women’s 4×400-meter relay team—Ashley Peterson, Sienna Rosario, Savannah Beasley, and Lydia Medina—achieved their best time of the season at 3:59.75 while placing fifth.
Ashley Peterson improved her indoor personal best in the open 400 meters earlier that day with a finish of 58.17 seconds. She is now close to entering Portland State’s all-time top ten for this event.
Sienna Rosario led four Vikings competing in the women’s 60 meters preliminaries but did not qualify for finals despite running near her personal best.
Akanesi Latu-Alves set new personal records both in the women’s 60 meters (8.18 seconds) and long jump (16-10). Ocean Rideout also improved her long jump mark to place tenth overall.
In field events, Avonlea Edwards achieved an indoor best in shot put with a throw of 34-08.25 (10.57m). Jaelyn Sayler and Mikey LaGris made their season debuts; Sayler posted a mark of 35-10.50 (10.93m), while LaGris threw for 33-03.25 (10.14m).
Amir Ahmed improved his indoor best in the men’s 800 meters to finish at 1:55.22.
