Four members of the Portland State women’s tennis team were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, according to a May 27 announcement. Sophomores Marta Giglio, Nene Uemura, and Kasumi Hirayama received their first career selections, while junior Scarlett Perkins earned recognition for the second consecutive season.
To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must be at least sophomores both academically and athletically, have competed in at least 75 percent of their team’s matches during the 2026 season, and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher.
This marks the third time in four years that Portland State’s program has achieved the maximum number of selections allowed. Although a minimum GPA of 3.50 is required for eligibility, each honoree from Portland State carried above a 3.70 GPA this year. Collectively, they averaged a GPA of 3.82.
All four athletes participated in at least 14 out of the team’s 15 dual matches during the season. Giglio led with 11 wins in both singles and doubles play and was recognized as Second Team All-Big Sky in singles and First Team All-Big Sky in doubles. Perkins posted a record of seven wins and eight losses at No. 1 singles along with seven wins and seven losses in doubles competition. Uemura and Hirayama each secured eight doubles victories; Uemura finished with five singles wins while Hirayama ranked second on the team with nine singles victories.
Uemura is majoring in marketing, Hirayama studies psychology, Giglio is pursuing science, and Perkins majors in finance.
