Portland State women’s tennis player Marta Giglio has been named the Big Sky Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the first time in her career. The recognition follows a weekend where she went undefeated in both singles and doubles matches against Lewis-Clark State College and the University of Portland.

Giglio, partnering with Hana Abdelhamid, secured two victories at No. 1 doubles. On Friday, they defeated Lulu Monnayoo and Naiara Montero from Lewis-Clark State College with a score of 6-2, contributing to Portland State’s opening point. On Sunday, the pair earned Portland State’s only doubles win against the University of Portland by beating Naiara Montero and Alaia Rubo Perez 6-4.

In singles play, Giglio recorded a straight-set win over LCSC’s Montero (6-0, 6-2) at the No. 3 position on Friday. She continued her strong performance on Sunday by defeating Dariya Radulova from Portland (6-2, 6-4) at line two.

According to Portland State Athletics, Giglio is a sophomore from Italy who transferred to Portland State after spending one year at Buffalo. This season, she has achieved a combined record of 12 wins and 2 losses in singles and doubles matches, including a 6-1 record in each during non-conference competition.
