The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office announced on May 20 that it is seeking the public’s assistance to identify a semi-truck involved in a hit-and-run rollover crash on Interstate 84. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Monday, May 18, about half a mile west of Dalton Point Recreation Site in eastbound lanes.

Authorities said video footage captured the crash and has been released to aid the investigation. According to the preliminary findings, a blue or purple-colored semi-truck pulling a trailer changed lanes into the path of a white commercial water truck. The semi reportedly clipped the front passenger side of the water truck, causing it to lose control, leave I-84, travel roughly 100 feet into wooded terrain, and roll onto its driver’s side.

The sheriff’s office confirmed that neither occupant of the water truck suffered serious injuries and that both are cooperating with investigators. However, “the semi-truck driver did not stop,” according to officials. The agency is asking anyone with information about the vehicle or its owner to contact them by phone or email.

Firefighters at the scene determined there was no hazardous materials threat after confirming that only water was present in the tank. Recovery efforts required two heavy-lift vehicles from a local tow company due to extensive damage and difficult terrain.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office also reminded media outlets to use its full name when reporting this incident for clarity because multiple agencies share similar abbreviations within Oregon. Officials stated that all information provided is based on an initial review and may be updated as new details emerge.
