The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office announced on May 16 that it is continuing to investigate the shooting of a 13-year-old girl near Northeast 235th Avenue and Northeast Arata Road in Wood Village. The girl remains hospitalized with injuries described as non-life threatening, and her identity has not been released to protect her privacy.
Detectives from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office are leading the investigation, working closely with the district attorney’s office. They are interviewing witnesses, collecting and reviewing video evidence, and processing additional materials related to the case. According to officials, early findings suggest that an argument may have preceded the shooting.
After the incident, the suspect left the scene. Detectives said they do not believe there is any ongoing threat to public safety at this time.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone who has cell phone video or information about what happened before, during, or after the shooting—and who has not yet spoken with deputies—to contact their non-emergency line at 503-823-3333.
Officials emphasized that care must be taken when making public statements during an open investigation. “Releasing uncorroborated information not yet established by independent witnesses or verified by detectives could compromise the integrity of the investigation and the administration of justice,” according to a statement from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said all information in this release is based on preliminary details available so far and may change as new facts emerge. Further updates will be provided when more confirmed information becomes available.
