The Portland Pilots women’s beach volleyball team concluded their participation in the Corban Invitational with a 5-0 win over Chaminade, following losses to Corban and Sacramento State.
During their match against Corban, the Pilots were competitive on several courts despite losing 5-0. Sarah Incitti and Tate Mercer at No. 2 and Valerie Bruk and Michela Strati at No. 3 each extended their matches to three sets. Leonie Freytag and Elin Larsson at No. 1 pushed their opponents to a close second set, ending 26-24.
In the dual against Sacramento State, Portland earned its first point of the season as Freytag and Larsson won in straight sets at the top position, 21-9, 21-16. Three other pairs forced matches into deciding sets, including a closely contested match at No. 3.
Portland ended the weekend by sweeping Chaminade on all five courts. Freytag and Larsson came from behind after dropping the first set to win at No. 1 with scores of 18-21, 23-21, and 15-5.
