The Portland Pilots baseball team secured a 10-4 victory over the Holy Cross Crusaders, marking their second win in the ongoing series and bringing their season record to 6-6. The Pilots’ offense was highlighted by a strong fourth inning, during which they scored eight runs.
Brady Bean led the team at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. This performance marked both a season high and matched his career high for hits in a game. Bean is currently the only Pilot to have four hits in a single game this season, and his home run was his second of the year.
Nolan Miller also contributed offensively with three hits, a walk, and an RBI. On the mound, Trey Newmann pitched five innings to earn his second win of the season, allowing three runs—only one earned—on seven hits while striking out five batters. Kaden Segel provided four innings of relief, giving up just one unearned run and striking out three to collect his first save of the year.
Holy Cross initially took the lead with an RBI single in the second inning. However, Bean tied the game with a solo home run in the third. In the fourth inning, Portland capitalized on errors by Holy Cross and timely hitting from Nitowitz and Bean to score eight runs. Miller added another RBI single during this stretch.
Portland added another run in the fifth following two runs by Holy Cross. The scoring slowed down after that point, with each team adding one more run before Portland sealed their 10-4 win.
“Bean had a season-high four hits with a 4-for-5 outing, collecting three RBI’s and a home run as well. His four hits match a career high as well,” according to team notes. “Bean is the first Pilot to record four hits in a game this season.”
“Bean’s homer was his second of the year. He’s the second Pilot to have multiple home runs on the year,” it was stated further.
“Miller added three hits in a 3-for-3 outing, along with an RBI,” according to team information.
“Newmann earned his second win of the year, going five innings with just one earned run and seven hits allowed along with five strikeouts,” said officials.
“Newmann is just the second Pilot to have multiple wins this year,” it was noted.
“Segel earned his first save of the year, going four innings with three strikeouts,” according to staff notes.
“The Pilots scored eight runs in the fourth inning in the win. Portland has scored 20 runs across two fourth innings the last two games,” stated officials.
“The Pilots have scored double-digit runs the last two games after not reaching double digits in any game prior,” according to team records.
“The Pilots lead the series against the Crusaders 2-0,” said officials.
The teams will play again tomorrow at 3 p.m., with updates available on PortlandPilots.com.
