Portland distance runners achieve personal bests at Stanford Invite

Portland’s men’s track and field team competed at the Stanford Invite, with several athletes achieving personal records and strong finishes, according to an April 3 announcement.

The event is notable for its high level of competition, offering student-athletes a chance to test themselves against some of the top collegiate runners in the country. Performances at meets like this can impact rankings and provide valuable experience as teams prepare for upcoming championship events.

In the men’s 1500 meters, Mark Milner finished ninth in Section 1 with a time of 3:40.72, while Trey Gannon placed eighth in Section 4 with a time of 3:48.92. Giuliano Scasso competed in Section 1 of the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase and recorded a time of 9:02.25.

Two Portland athletes set new personal bests in the men’s 10,000 meters during Section 2. Kgadi Monyebodi led his teammates by finishing twentieth with a time of 28:54.23, followed closely by Anthony Giesch who placed twenty-third at 28:58.80.

The team will next compete at the Bryan Clay Invitational from April 16–18 in Azusa, California.

Portland State track and field athletes overcame rain-soaked conditions at the John Knight Twilight meet with several standout performances including multiple personal records. Freshman Hannah Butterfield led highlights with a top finish in the women’s 400 meters while relays also posted season-best times.
