The Portland Pilots women’s beach volleyball team lost both matches of a doubleheader against the Oregon Ducks on March 20, with Oregon winning each contest 5-0.

The matches took place in Eugene, where the Pilots pushed several courts to three sets but were unable to secure a win. In the first match, Sarah Incitti and Tate Mercer at the No. 1 position won their opening set before falling in three sets with scores of 22-24, 21-16, and 15-12. The No. 2 pair, Leonie Freytag and Elin Larsson, also forced a third set after taking the first set 28-26 but ultimately lost as Oregon rallied for victory. Valerie Bruk and Michela Strati at No. 3 opened with a set win but could not hold off their opponents in three sets. Oregon secured straight-set victories on courts four and five to clinch the team win.

In the second match of the day, Oregon again swept all five courts. Incitti and Mercer competed at the top flight but fell in straight sets. Freytag and Larsson managed to force another third set at No. 2 before coming up short with a final score of 15-9 in the deciding frame. The Ducks controlled play on courts three through five with straight-set wins.

The weekend series between Portland and Oregon will conclude Sunday in Portland, where first serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. on the Pilots’ home courts.
