Portland Pilots men’s tennis defeats Idaho Vandals in non-conference match

The Portland Pilots men’s tennis team defeated the Idaho Vandals 5-2 in a non-conference dual on April 6 at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center.

The result highlights Portland’s performance as they secured the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 positions, giving them an early lead in the match.

Nikola Keremedchiev and Cade Fernando won their doubles match against Chetanna Amadike and Gabriel Moroder with a score of 6-3, while Tom Garcia and Eli Noel clinched another win for Portland by defeating Valentin Glasl and Eric William Wang, 6-4. In singles play, Idaho managed to tie the team score with a win at No. 3 singles before Keremedchiev restored Portland’s advantage by beating Amadike 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Fernando followed up with a straight-set victory over Moroder at No. 2 singles.

Stefan Skobelev delivered the match-clinching point for Portland by overcoming Wang at No. 4 singles (6-3, 6-2). Tannor Binder finished off Portland’s scoring efforts with a win against Glasl (6-4, 6-2) at No.5 singles.

According to match notes provided after the event, Portland now holds a season record of six wins and thirteen losses while Idaho stands at seven wins and fourteen losses following this contest.

Looking ahead, Portland is scheduled to host Saint Mary’s Gaels on Sunday at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center.
