Portland Pilots secure series win over LMU Lions with 13-4 victory

The Portland Pilots baseball team defeated the Loyola Marymount University Lions 13-4 on March 21, clinching the series and improving their record to 13-7 overall and 2-0 in West Coast Conference play.

This win is significant for the Pilots as it marks their fourth consecutive series victory and their first road series win of the season. The team also extended its winning streak to five games, having won 11 of their last 13 contests.

Portland’s offense was strong throughout the game, recording a season-high 17 hits. Six players had multiple hits, with Trey Swygart leading by going 3-for-6 with two runs batted in and a double. Nolan Miller contributed three runs batted in and two doubles during his 2-for-4 performance. Cody Nitowitz, Brooks Avery, Jonas Salk, and Brady Bean also had multi-hit games. Troy Osborne hit a two-run home run in his only at-bat, marking both his first collegiate hit and home run.

On the mound, Logan Anderson earned his second win of the year after pitching five innings with two runs allowed and four strikeouts. Kaden Segel pitched four innings in relief, allowing two runs while striking out a season-high six batters to earn his third save of the year.

The Pilots broke open the scoring in the third inning with five runs and continued to add to their lead throughout the game. LMU managed to score four runs but could not overcome Portland’s offensive output. The teams will conclude their series on Sunday at 1 p.m., according to information provided by PortlandPilots.com.
