The Portland Pilots baseball team defeated the No. 15 ranked Oregon Ducks 3-0 in Eugene on March 31, marking their third consecutive win against the Ducks at PK Park and their tenth victory in eleven games this season.
This result highlights a strong stretch for the Pilots, who now hold an overall record of 18-8. The win is notable as it represents Portland’s first shutout of the season and their first shutout against Oregon since 2009.
Brady Bean and Jonas Salk each hit home runs to account for all three of Portland’s runs. Bean went 1-for-4 with his fifth homer of the year, bringing his career total to twenty-two and extending his hitting streak to ten games—the longest by any Pilot this year. Salk also went deep in the ninth inning with a two-run shot, tying him with head coach Geoff Loomis at twenty-two career homers as well.
On the mound, Logan Anderson started for Portland and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit. Aaron Louis earned his second win of the season by throwing four no-hit innings in relief with three strikeouts. Callum Young made an appearance before Alex Via closed out the game with his sixth save—setting a new single-season record for saves by a true freshman at Portland.
The Pilots have now won five of their last six matchups against Oregon and all four midweek games this year. They will next travel to Bellevue for a three-game series against Seattle U Redhawks beginning Thursday, April 2.
