Portland Pilots split matches with Bushnell, prepare for Sacramento tournament

The Portland Pilots women’s beach volleyball team split two matches against Bushnell University on March 9 in Eugene, winning the first dual 3-2 before dropping the second 4-1. The results bring the Pilots’ season record to 4-4.

The matches were closely contested, with Portland securing victories in Flights 1, 2, and 3 during their opening win. Sarah Incitti and Tate Mercer earned the team’s first point with a straight-set victory on Flight 2. Leonie Freytag and Elin Larsson followed up by winning a three-set battle on Flight 1. The deciding point came from Mic Strati and Val Bruk, who closed out their match in three sets to clinch the team win.

In the second dual of the day, Bushnell took four of five flights. Freytag and Larsson provided Portland’s only point by rallying after a first-set loss to win their match on Flight 1.

With these results, Portland will next travel to California for the Sac State Tournament at Hornet Beach in Sacramento. Their upcoming schedule includes matches against Sacramento State on March 13 at 2:00 p.m., Corban on March 14 at 10:00 a.m., and San Francisco later that day at 2:00 p.m.
