The Portland Pilots are set to host the No. 21 Oregon Ducks at Joe Etzel Field on Wednesday, Apr. 8, with the first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and tickets are available through PortlandPilots.com.
This matchup marks the second meeting between the teams this season, with Portland previously securing a shutout victory over Oregon—their first against the Ducks since 2009. The Pilots have now won five of their last six games against Oregon and hold a current record of 19-10 overall and 6-3 in West Coast Conference play.
Recent performances have highlighted strong pitching from Portland, including a staff effort that led to their recent win over then-No.15 Oregon, as well as another shutout against Seattle U last week. Freshman Will Labonte has been particularly notable, earning WCC Freshman of the Week honors for two consecutive weeks after allowing no runs in four outings this year and leading conference pitchers with a 1.70 ERA.
Offensively, Cole Katayama-Stall leads the team with seven home runs and a .312 batting average, while Brady Bean and Jonas Salk continue to add power at the plate. On defense, Alex Via’s seven saves top both program history for freshmen and rank fifth nationally among all players.
Head coach Geoff Loomis is in his eleventh season leading the Pilots and has accumulated more than 250 career wins—ranking him fourth all-time at Portland. The coaching staff also includes Trey Watt as associate head coach following his promotion after last season.
The visiting Ducks come into Wednesday’s contest with a record of 24-8 overall (8-4 Big Ten) under eighth-year head coach Mark Wasikowski. Last year they finished with a strong showing but exited early from their regional tournament.
