The Portland Pilots track and field teams concluded the regular season with a series of notable results at the George Fox University NCAA Final Qualifier in Newberg and the Stumptown Running West Coast Twilight in Portland, according to a May 17 announcement.
These events were significant for the athletes as they provided opportunities to set personal records, win event titles, and compete against strong collegiate fields. The performances marked the end of the regular competition schedule for both men’s and women’s squads.
At the George Fox University NCAA Final Qualifier, Yutaka Roberts won the men’s 800 meters with a time of 1:50.47. Jacob Hupke led a sweep in the men’s 1500 meters by finishing first in a personal-best time of 3:50.97, followed by Trey Gannon and Elliot Hawley, who also posted strong times. On the women’s side, Malia Rose Harvey claimed victory in the 400 meters after also competing in the 200 meters. Rose Perotin secured first place in the women’s 800 meters while Lindsey Kaines finished third and Giana Atkinson achieved a personal best.
During the Stumptown Running West Coast Twilight meet, Giuliano Scasso took first place in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase with an impressive time of 8:58.49. Mark Milner finished second in his section of the high-performance men’s 1500 meters at 3:44.10, while Matthew Cordova set a new personal record in the men’s high-performance 5000 meters event.
Additional highlights included Kgadi Monyebodi’s fourth-place finish in the men’s high-performance 10,000 meters race along with several other team members achieving their own best marks across various events on both days of competition.
As their regular season ends, these results reflect positively on athlete development throughout this year’s campaign and may serve as momentum heading into future postseason or championship meets.
