The Portland Pilots women’s beach volleyball team lost three matches on March 14 at the Hornet Beach Bash in Sacramento, California. The team was defeated by Sacramento State, Corban University, and the University of San Francisco, moving their overall season record to 4-7.

These results are significant as they reflect the team’s ongoing efforts to compete against a range of opponents during the season. Despite several close sets, the Pilots were unable to secure a match win during the event.

In their opening match against Sacramento State, Portland lost 5-0. The No. 1 pairing of Tate Mercer and Sarah Incitti played a competitive match but fell with scores of 21-19 and 21-15. Elizabeth Ortiz and Melissa Cormack also kept their match close before losing 21-19 and 21-16. In the second contest against Corban University, Mercer and Incitti again competed closely but were defeated 21-17 and 21-19. The closest opportunity for Portland came at the No. 3 flight where Michela Strati and Valerie Bruk forced a third set before ultimately losing.

The final match of the day saw Portland face San Francisco, resulting in another 5-0 loss. Several matches were tightly contested, including Nyah Mitchell and Elizabeth Ortiz’s effort at No. 4 flight, where they lost two extended sets (23-21, 24-22). Mercer and Incitti also pushed their opponents to a tight second set before falling.
