The Portland Pilots women’s rowing team earned three victories at the Puget Sound Invite in Lakewood, Wash., on March 14, winning all but one race during the event.
The results highlight a strong performance by the Pilots across multiple categories. The varsity eight opened with a time of 7:07.3, led by coxswain Leahbelle Paladino and stroke Julia Kiplinger. The second varsity eight followed with a win, finishing in 7:36.8 under coxswain Natalie Petty and stroke Isabella Honig.
In the four-person boat races, Portland took first and second place in the varsity events. The first varsity four, coxswained by Bella Valenzuela with Averie Zealley as stroke, finished ahead of their teammates in the second boat, which posted a time of 8:16.9 with Emma Hanson as coxswain and Megan Eckels as stroke. In the novice four race, Portland placed second behind Puget Sound with a time of 8:39.5; Helena Tran served as coxswain and Jenn Hacking was stroke.
Full results from the invite show Portland’s varsity eight defeating Puget Sound (7:21.5) and Seattle University (7:41.4). The second varsity eight also bested both schools’ crews. In the varsity four event, two Portland boats finished ahead of Seattle University.
The Pilots are scheduled to compete next at the Dexter Invite on March 28 at Dexter Lake, hosted by Oregon State Beavers.
