Portland State announced on May 13 that point guard Koren Johnson will join the men’s basketball team for the 2026-27 season, according to Head Coach Jase Coburn.
Johnson is a 6-foot-1 guard who was named Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year at Washington and most recently played at Ole Miss. Coburn said, “We are really excited to add Koren to our program. His talent and ability are off the charts. He can score and make plays with anyone in the country, and he has proven that in his career.
Koren has the ability to get a bucket but also is really good at making others around him better. Defensively, he will fit our system and is great at being disruptive. I feel like we will be a great fit and perfect match for each other as a player and a program.” Johnson brings ball-handling skills to Portland State’s roster after playing two seasons at Washington, where he averaged 11.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game during his award-winning season in 2023-24.
Before joining Ole Miss last year following an injury-plagued stint at Louisville, Johnson attended Garfield High School in Seattle. There he led his team to a state championship in 2020 and was ranked as Washington’s top recruit in 2022 as well as number-25 point guard nationally.
He joins Portland State after their Big Sky Conference regular season championship win in the previous year (20-11 overall record; 13-5 conference), under head coach Coburn who was named Big Sky Coach of the Year.
