Portland State Athletics announced on Apr. 2 that Men’s Basketball Coach Jase Coburn has agreed to a contract extension, keeping him with the program through the 2030-31 season. The announcement was made by Director of Athletics Matt Billings.

The extension follows a successful year for Coburn, who was named Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year after leading Portland State to its first Big Sky regular season title in 18 seasons and its best record in 17 seasons during the 2025-26 campaign. The team finished with an overall record of 20-11 and a conference record of 13-5. Coburn is also a finalist for the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award, which recognizes Division I coaches who demonstrate integrity both on and off the court.

Coburn recently completed his fifth season as head coach at Portland State. His previous contract was set to run through the end of the 2027-28 season but has now been extended by three years.

“Jase has done a tremendous job as head coach of our men’s basketball program,” said Billings. “He has instilled an impressive culture of accountability, development, and team success and is a fantastic representative for Portland State University and the Athletic Department. We are so proud of what he and his program have accomplished and look forward to his continued success on the Park Blocks.”

Coburn expressed gratitude for those supporting him: “I really appreciate President Cudd and Matt Billings for their continued support,” said Coburn. “I’m thankful for the opportunity to continue the momentum and culture that we have built here and forever grateful for our past players and staff that have continued to set the standard year after year. We are excited to get back to work and build off what we accomplished this past season.”

During the most recent season, Coburn led Portland State to its best start in league play (7-0), achieved six consecutive road wins—a new program record—and secured just its third regular-season title since joining the Big Sky Conference three decades ago. The Vikings also featured several standout players including Terri Miller Jr., named Most Valuable Player; Tre-Vaughn Minott, Defensive Player of the Year; as well as Jaylin Henderson, who earned first team All-League honors.

Since taking over as head coach, Coburn’s teams have steadily improved their performance each year both in league play wins (from six up to thirteen) and total wins per season (from twelve up to twenty). He completed his thirteenth overall year at Portland State this spring after serving eight years previously as assistant coach or associate head coach, compiling a career head coaching record of 82-75.
