Portland State University’s men’s basketball team has received several top honors from the Big Sky Conference following its regular season title. The conference announced its postseason awards, with three major accolades and three All-Conference selections going to Portland State.
Terri Miller Jr. was named the Big Sky Conference Most Valuable Player. Tre-Vaughn Minott earned Defensive Player of the Year for a second consecutive season. Head Coach Jase Coburn was selected as Coach of the Year by his peers. Jaylin Henderson joined Miller on the First Team All-Conference list, while Minott was placed on the Second Team All-Conference.
These awards mark Portland State’s largest collection of honors since their last regular season league title in 2007-08, when Jeremiah Dominguez won Player of the Year and Ken Bone was named Coach of the Year.
Miller, a forward from Fresno, California, led Portland State with an average of 18.9 points per game, ranking second in the conference. He also placed among the top ten in six statistical categories across the league and recorded two triple-doubles during the season—two out of only three in school history.
Henderson contributed significantly as well, averaging 17.9 points and leading the league in minutes played. He ranked fifth in scoring and second in assists within the conference. His performances included eight full games played without rest and several highlight dunks that have placed him on a watch list for a national slam dunk contest at this year’s Final Four.
Minott led all players in rebounding at 8.9 per game and posted a field goal percentage of .665. He also set new school records for dunks both in a single season and over his career at Portland State.
Coach Jase Coburn is now in his fifth year as head coach after serving eight years as an assistant or associate head coach at Portland State. Under his leadership, team wins have steadily increased over four seasons; this year’s squad finished with a 13-5 record in conference play and 19-10 overall before entering tournament play.
“Although a fiery sideline leader, Coburn has also been named a finalist for the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award for not only achieving success on the basketball court but by displaying moral integrity on and off it as well.”
The Vikings begin their postseason run Sunday at Idaho Central Arena against either Idaho State or Northern Arizona.
