The Portland State men’s tennis team lost to Utah State, 4-0, on Mar. 24 at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club in Logan, Utah.
This match was important for both teams as they continued their seasons. The Vikings entered the contest with a record of five wins and twelve losses overall, and one win and three losses in conference play. The Aggies improved their season record to ten wins and five losses.
In doubles play, Portland State made changes to its usual lineup. Aarjun Pandit and Maas Schotanus were leading 5-4 at No. 2 doubles when the point was decided, while Edoardo Cravanzola and Luca Prino kept the score close before losing 6-4 at the top spot. In singles competition, Utah State secured straight-set victories on courts four, five, and six to clinch the overall win.
Several singles matches remained unfinished when the result was determined. Xavier Calvelo of Utah State led Aarjun Pandit 7-5, 5-1; Roman Venger led Maas Schotanus 6-4, 5-3; Eliot Nobel led Luca Prino 6-3, 5-3.
The Vikings will look ahead to future matches as they continue their season.
