The Portland State men’s tennis team defeated Idaho 6-1 in its home finale at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center on April 5.

The victory marks only the second time Portland State has beaten Idaho in program history, and the first since 2019. The win comes as a significant result for Portland State, which was selected eighth in the Big Sky preseason poll, while Idaho was picked third.

During doubles play, Portland State lost the opening match at No. 3 but came back to win both remaining matches with scores of 6-4. Luca Prino and Edoardo Cravanzola won at No. 2 doubles against Noe De Col and Mikolaj Lis, while Aarjun Pandit and Maas Schotanus secured the point at No. 1 by defeating Chetanna Amadike and Gabriel Moroder.

In singles competition, Prino quickly extended Portland State’s lead with a decisive win over Lis at No. 3 (6-0, 6-1). Luke Lu followed with a straight-set victory over De Col at No. 6 (6-0, 6-2), marking his first Big Sky singles match appearance. Pandit clinched the overall match for Portland State by defeating Amadike at No.1 (6-3, 6-3), completing an undefeated home season.

Schotanus earned his sixth win of the year and first conference victory by beating Moroder at No.2 (7-5, 6-4). Ignacio Ruiz added another point with a tiebreaker win over Valentin Gisel at No.5 (7-5,7-6). Idaho’s only point came from Eric Wang’s narrow victory over Cravanzola at No.4 (7-5,7-5).

With two regular-season matches left to play, Sunday’s result moves Portland State into fourth place in conference standings and keeps them in contention for a spot in the Big Sky Tournament—a goal they have missed out on for four seasons. The Vikings will look to secure their tournament position when they face Sacramento State on April 16.
