The Portland State men’s tennis team was defeated by the University of Washington Huskies 4-0 in a dual match held at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle on Saturday. The contest was played to clinch, meaning play concluded once the overall team result was decided.
Washington secured the doubles point after winning two out of three matches. Brett Pearson and Soham Purohit, ranked 63rd nationally, won their match against Edoardo Cravanzola and Maas Schotanus with a score of 6-3. Portland State responded as Luca Prino and Luke Lu beat Rohan Belday and Hyeonseok Seo 6-4 at line three. The deciding doubles match saw Aarjun Pandit and Ignacio Ruiz narrowly lose to Stephane Kamendje and Nikola Plavsic 7-5, giving Washington an early lead.
In singles play, the Huskies claimed victories at lines three, four, and five to clinch the dual. Rohan Belday defeated Luca Prino 6-2, 6-1; Hyeonseok Seo beat Edoardo Cravanzola 6-2, 6-2; and Daniel Bien overcame Ignacio Ruiz 6-4, 6-2. Other singles matches were left unfinished once Washington secured enough points for victory.
Portland State will next host Lewis–Clark State College on February 21 at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center. This will be their final match before beginning Big Sky Conference play. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
