Portland State University’s men’s tennis team lost both matches in a doubleheader against Grand Canyon University on Saturday at the GCU Tennis Complex in Phoenix, Arizona. The Vikings, who now have a season record of 4-8, were defeated 4-0 in each match by the Lopes, who improved their record to 15-2.
During the first match’s doubles round, Portland State’s Edoardo Cravanzola and Maas Schotanus lost 6-4 to Daniel Jankoski and Brice Patoux at the top position. Aarjun Pandit and Ignacio Ruiz were defeated 6-3 by Tristan Berard and Andreas Loizas at line two. Meanwhile, Luke Lu and Luca Prino were leading 6-5 against Tim Hohmann and Charlie Pade on court three when the doubles point was decided.
Both teams changed their doubles pairings for the second match. Grand Canyon again won the opening point. Lu and Prino held a 5-4 lead over Jankoski and Patoux at line two before play was stopped.
Grand Canyon secured both overall victories by winning three singles matches in straight sets during each dual.
Portland State will return to Big Sky Conference play on Sunday with a match against Northern Arizona scheduled for 10:00 a.m. PT / 11:00 a.m. MT.
