The Portland State men’s tennis team will play its last home match of the regular season against Idaho on Sunday, April 5, at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.

This match marks an important opportunity for the Vikings as they look to secure another conference win before finishing their season with two road games. The team currently holds a 5-13 overall record and is 1-4 in Big Sky Conference play, having last won a conference match on Feb. 28.

Despite recent losses, Portland State has remained competitive by winning at least one point in each of its last four matches and pushing eleven singles contests to three sets. However, only three of those three-set matches resulted in victories for the Vikings. In doubles action, a lineup change led to wins from Maas Schotanus and Aarjun Pandit at No. 1 doubles and Luke Lu with Ignacio Ruiz at No. 3 doubles during their previous outing against Idaho State.

Freshmen Pandit and Ruiz have emerged as key contributors this season, each leading the team with six wins apiece in both singles and doubles competition. Pandit has maintained a .500 record at No. 1 singles spot with notable conference victories over Montana and Montana State. Ruiz has also recorded two Big Sky wins while playing primarily at line five.

Idaho enters Sunday’s contest with a 7-13 overall record (2-3 Big Sky), having lost its last two matches by narrow margins of 4-3 against Montana and Montana State. Historically, Idaho leads the all-time series against Portland State by nineteen wins to one; the Vikings’ sole victory came in 2019 under current head coach Vetu Mam.

After Sunday’s home finale, Portland State will take a break before concluding their regular season on the road against Sacramento State on April 16 and UC Davis on April 17.
