The Portland State softball team lost the deciding game of its weekend series against Idaho State on April 4, falling 4-2 at Miller Ranch Stadium.

The outcome means the Vikings dropped the three-game series two games to one. After a strong offensive showing with 17 hits on Friday, Portland State managed only five hits in Saturday’s contest, with just one for extra bases. Idaho State recorded nine hits off Viking pitchers Sherreigh Nakoa-Chung and Giselle Pantoja.

Idaho State’s Alysaa Yee opened the scoring with a leadoff home run in the first inning. The Vikings threatened in their next at-bat by loading the bases with one out but were unable to score. In the third inning, Breanna Lutz led off with a double and Nichole Orozco drove her in with an RBI single. Abigail Carsley later drew a two-out bases-loaded walk, giving Portland State its first lead of the day at 2-1. However, Idaho State tied it up in the fourth and added runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to secure victory.

Portland State left ten runners on base during the game, drawing eight free passes through four walks and four hit batters. Lutz was notable offensively for Portland State, collecting two of her team’s five hits during this game and hitting .500 over the series (5-for-10), including both a double and a home run.

Looking ahead, Portland State will begin an eight-game homestand at Hillsboro Ballpark over two weeks. The stretch starts with a weekend series against Weber State from April 10 to April 11.
