Portland State University’s softball team will play its final four non-conference road games of the season in Los Angeles on March 13 and 14, facing Loyola Marymount University and Southern Utah twice each at LMU’s Smith Field.

These games mark the end of a stretch of away matches for the Vikings, who currently hold an 8-12 record. The team will open both days against host Loyola Marymount before taking on Southern Utah. Friday’s doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m., with Saturday’s action starting at 10 a.m. The matchups against LMU will be streamed live on ESPN+, while contests with Southern Utah will have live stats available.

Loyola Marymount enters the weekend with an 18-8 record and is ranked 14th in the latest mid-major softball poll. The Lions are hitting .320 as a team and their pitching staff ranks among the top nationally in earned run average and shutouts. Portland State trails LMU in their all-time series, having lost five straight meetings since 2020. Against Southern Utah, which holds an 11-15 record this season, Portland State leads the all-time series and has won six consecutive games over their former Big Sky rival.

The Vikings recently went 2-3 at the Blue Collar Classic in Boise, Idaho, highlighted by a complete-game win from Sherreigh Nakoa-Chung over Boise State that snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Broncos. Defensively, Portland State leads the Big Sky Conference with a .967 fielding percentage and has recorded six error-free games this year.

Offensively, Grace Johnson leads the team with a .393 batting average and nine stolen bases without being caught. Freshman Mia Martinez tops the squad in runs batted in (12) and home runs (4). Nakoa-Chung has also contributed both as a pitcher—holding opponents to a .281 average—and as a hitter.

Looking ahead, Portland State will debut its new home field at Hillsboro Ballpark next week, hosting North Dakota for their home opener on March 20. Admission to all home games during the season will be free.
