Portland State will take part in the Jackrabbits Invitational hosted by South Dakota State on March 16-17 in Boulder City, Nevada. The women’s golf team and nine other schools are set to play a 54-hole event at Boulder Creek Golf Club, with continuous play of 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday, starting at 8 a.m. each day.

The tournament marks the third spring event for Portland State as the team prepares for the Big Sky Conference Championship scheduled for April 20-22 in Litchfield, Arizona. The Jackrabbits Invitational is notable because it is the only tournament this season that does not include another Big Sky Conference school among its competitors.

Cynthia Valerie Ong has led Portland State in scoring during both spring tournaments so far, posting scores of 227 at the Bowling Green Intercollegiate and 231 at the Fresno State Spring Classic. Ong currently leads the team with a scoring average of 75.72 through six events this season. Other top contributors include Payten Shimizu and Maddie Dustin, who have averages of 76.93 and 77.28 respectively.

In terms of birdies made over six tournaments, Dustin leads with 29 (including one eagle), followed closely by Ong with 28 and Shimizu with 26. Bayler Brundage has played in 94 rounds for Portland State, tying her for tenth all-time at the school, while Shimizu ranks fourteenth with 87 rounds played.

The Vikings’ best single-round team score this season is a combined total of 294 strokes, while their best overall tournament score stands at 886. Live scoring for the Jackrabbits Invitational will be available online.

Looking ahead, Portland State’s schedule includes another spring event—the Bobcat Desert Classic—before concluding with the conference championship later in April.
