Portland State lost both games of a doubleheader against Montana on March 28, dropping the first game 5-0 and the second game 10-5 as Big Sky Conference play began.

The losses mark a tough start for the Vikings (10-21, 0-2) in conference competition. In the first game, Portland State managed four hits but was unable to score, while Montana (10-22, 2-0) hit two home runs and scored in three separate innings to secure a shutout victory. Nichole Orozco had the only extra-base hit for Portland State, with Sierra Llamas, Sofia Peato and Mia Martinez each adding singles.

In the second matchup of the day, Portland State’s offense improved as they put together a three-run third inning with runs batted in by Peato and Orozco. Despite their efforts, Montana extended its lead to seven runs by the fifth inning. The Vikings added two more runs late but ultimately fell short with a final score of 10-5.

Martinez led Portland State’s offense in game two with three hits. Orozco, Peato and Breanna Lutz each contributed two hits.

The series is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, March 29 at Grizzly Softball Field at 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
