Pepperdine University dominated the Fresno State Spring Classic women’s golf tournament, finishing first among 11 teams at Fort Washington Golf and Country Club. The Waves, ranked tenth nationally, won by a margin of 44 strokes with a team total of 853 over three rounds.
Cal Poly finished in second place with a score of 897, while Portland State University took tenth place after recording rounds of 315, 310, and 310 for a total of 935.
Eunseo Choi led Pepperdine and claimed the individual title with scores of 69-72-69 for a six-under-par total of 210. Teammates Jeneath Wong (213) and Yingzhi Zhu (215) followed closely behind.
Portland State’s top performer was junior Cynthia Valerie Ong, who placed 29th out of 70 participants with rounds totaling 231. Freshman Caithlyn Ong finished in 36th position at 232. Senior Bayler Brundage recorded the best round for Portland State on Tuesday with a three-over-par score of 75 and completed the event in 41st place at 233.
Other Portland State results included senior Payten Shimizu (60th, total score: 243) and sophomore Maddie Dustin (62nd, total score: 244). Within Big Sky Conference competitors at the event, Portland State trailed Weber State but finished ahead of Idaho State.
Brundage made six birdies over the tournament’s three rounds to lead her team in that category.
The Vikings will next compete at the Jackrabbit Invitational hosted by South Dakota State on March 16-17 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Nevada.
