Portland State women’s golf sits twelfth after day one at Bowling Green Intercollegiate

The Portland State Women’s Golf Team ended the first day of the Bowling Green Intercollegiate Tournament in 12th place, marking their opening event for the spring season at Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield, Arizona.

After two rounds on the Wigwam Blue Course, Portland State posted scores of 310 and 306 for a total of 616. UTEP leads among the 15 participating teams with an even-par score of 568. UT-Arlington holds second place at 575. The final round is scheduled for Wednesday.

Senior Bayler Brundage opened with three birdies and a score of 74 in her first round. Sophomore Maddie Dustin made an eagle on the sixth hole, a par-4 stretching 394 yards. In the second round, junior Cynthia Valerie Ong matched Brundage’s earlier effort with another 74 and currently stands in 37th place overall with a total score of 152.

Brundage is in 53rd position among the field of 84 players after posting rounds of 74 and 81 for a combined score of 155. Dustin and senior Payten Shimizu are tied for 56th, each scoring a total of 156 over two rounds. Junior Momo Udom is placed at 68th with scores of 81 and 78.

Atikan Cherdchoo from UTEP leads all individual players with scores of three-under-par (68-71=139). Two golfers are tied at one shot back (140), while two others sit at two shots behind (141).

According to tournament records, several Vikings contributed birdies over the first two rounds: Maddie Dustin recorded three birdies and one eagle; Payten Shimizu had three birdies; Bayler Brundage also carded three; Cynthia Valerie Ong made two; and Momo Udom added two as well.

The Blue Course at Wigwam Golf Resort will also serve as host for this year’s Big Sky Championship from April 20 to April 22.
