Portland State women’s tennis sweeps Linfield in home opener

Portland State University’s women’s tennis team secured a 7-0 victory over Linfield in their first home match of the season at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center on Sunday. The result brings the Vikings’ record to 3-1 and marks their third consecutive sweep, all against Division III teams. The match was an exhibition for Linfield and does not affect their official record.

Four Portland State players achieved 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles matches. In doubles, Scarlett Perkins and Kasumi Hirayama won 6-0 at No. 1, while Nene Uemura and Marta Giglio posted the same score at No. 2. Anjola Ige and Hana Abdelhamid recorded a 6-1 win at No. 3.

In singles play, Giglio (No. 4), Abdelhamid (No. 5), and Ige (No. 6) each earned shutout victories, with Uemura also winning without dropping a game at No. 2. Hirayama secured a 6-1, 6-0 win at line three, and Perkins finished with a 6-2, 6-1 result at No. 1.

The Vikings will next compete on Friday, Feb. 20, when they travel to Pullman, Washington to face Washington State at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
