The Portland State women’s tennis team will play its last home match of the season against Eastern Washington at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center on April 4. Both teams are aiming to secure their spots in the Big Sky Tournament, with only four matches left in the regular season.

The outcome of this match is important for both programs as they compete for one of six available positions in the conference tournament scheduled for later this month. Currently, both Portland State (6-4 overall, 2-2 Big Sky) and Eastern Washington (8-7 overall, 2-2 Big Sky) are inside that top six.

Last weekend, Portland State achieved a narrow 4-3 victory over second-place Idaho at home. The Vikings won the doubles point and secured singles wins from Scarlett Perkins, Marta Giglio, and Hana Abdelhamid. Giglio leads the team with a 9-2 singles record during her first season at Portland State. She has an .818 win percentage entering this final stretch and is close to breaking Tracy Dong’s single-season program record set in 2015.

Portland State has been strong at home this year with a 4-2 record and seeks its fourth win over Eastern Washington in five years. Last year’s meeting saw Eastern Washington end Portland State’s three-match series winning streak by defeating them 5-2 on the road.

Eastern Washington started conference play with two close wins but has since lost three consecutive matches. Saturday’s contest will help determine postseason positioning as both teams look to maintain their standing among conference leaders.
