The Portland women’s tennis team defeated Montana State by a score of 5-2 on March 17 at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. With this win, the Pilots extended their winning streak to four matches and improved their season record to 5-5, while the Bobcats dropped to 4-9.

This result is significant as it marks continued momentum for Portland ahead of its upcoming conference play. The match began with doubles competition, where Portland’s top pair, Alaia Rubio Perez and Maria Galatescu, secured a convincing 6-1 victory. However, Montana State responded by winning at No. 2 doubles and clinched the doubles point after a tiebreaker win at No. 3.

In singles play, Portland dominated. Rubio Perez led with a straight sets win over Anna Wise at the top spot. Nadine Arbaizar Martinez followed with another straight sets victory against Angel Bean in the No. 3 position. Dariya Radulova added a three-set win over Nia Gelashvili at No. 2 singles.

Maria Galatescu delivered the match-clinching point for Portland with her win against Terezie Stverakova at No. 4 singles. Although Montana State earned its second point in No. 5 singles, Meagan Pearson closed out scoring for Portland by defeating Kavya Khirwar in straight sets at No. 6.

Looking ahead, Portland will begin West Coast Conference play by hosting Santa Clara on Saturday and San Diego on Sunday, both scheduled for morning starts.
