The Portland women’s tennis team defeated the Saint Mary’s Gaels 6-1 in a West Coast Conference match at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center on April 4. The Pilots improved their overall record to 8-8 and moved to 3-3 in conference play after also sweeping Pacific earlier in the week.
This win is significant for Portland as it strengthens their position within the conference standings and demonstrates strong performances across both singles and doubles matches.
In doubles, Saint Mary’s took an early lead by winning at No. 2, but Portland’s top duo of Alaia Rubio Perez and Maria Galatescu responded with a tiebreak victory. Meagan Pearson and Nadine Arbaizar Martinez then secured the doubles point for Portland with another tiebreak win at No. 3. In singles play, Dariya Radulova won her match at No. 2 with a decisive score of 6-0, 6-1, followed by Rubio Perez’s straight sets victory at No. 1. Arbaizar Martinez clinched the overall team win with her performance on court three.
Additional points came from Galatescu at No. 4 singles and Lexie Flores at No. 6, while Sydney Wilson scored Saint Mary’s only point by defeating Pearson on court five.
The Pilots will continue their West Coast Conference schedule next weekend when they travel to face Gonzaga and Washington State.
