Portland senior Alaia Rubio Perez and sophomore Maria Galatescu were named the West Coast Conference Doubles Team of the Week, according to an April 7 announcement from the league office. The recognition comes after the pair secured victories in both of their matches last week, contributing to Portland’s wins over Pacific and Saint Mary’s.

The award highlights the achievements of Rubio Perez and Galatescu as Portland’s No. 1 doubles team. They recorded a 6-2 win against Pacific’s Milena Maiorova and Indiya McLeod, helping clinch the doubles point in a match that ended with a 4-0 sweep for Portland. In their next match, they defeated Sophia Daryaie and Tiana Fox in a tiebreaker (7-2), once again securing the doubles point during Portland’s 6-1 victory over Saint Mary’s.

With these results, Rubio Perez and Galatescu improved their season record to 14 wins and 11 losses overall in doubles play. Against West Coast Conference opponents this season, they now stand at three wins and three losses.

The Pilots currently hold an overall record of eight wins and eight losses, with three victories against conference teams. They are scheduled to continue conference play this weekend with away matches at Gonzaga on Saturday at noon and Washington State on Sunday at 11 a.m., as they aim for a spot in the upcoming WCC Championships.

In addition to honoring Rubio Perez and Galatescu for doubles performance, other weekly honors announced by the West Coast Conference include Yura Nakagawa from Washington State for singles play, while Helene Schnack from LMU was recognized as Freshman of the Week.
