Portland women’s tennis lost its five-match winning streak after a 5-2 defeat to No. 45 San Diego on March 22 at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots now hold a 6-6 overall record, while the Toreros improve to 7-7 for the season.

The match began with San Diego securing the doubles point by winning at both No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Portland’s No. 2 pair, Dariya Radulova and Lexie Flores, were close to a win but their match was abandoned at a score of 5-3.

In singles play, San Diego won the first three matches to take control of the contest. Charlotte Keitel defeated Alaia Rubio Perez in straight sets at the top spot. Nadine Arbaizar Martinez pushed Hannah Read, ranked No. 109 nationally, to three sets but ultimately lost. Radulova also fell in a close two-set match against Vilma Krebs Hyllested, which clinched the overall victory for San Diego.

Portland managed two points in singles competition. Senior Meagan Pearson earned a straight set win over Kristina Nordikyan at No. 6 singles, and Maria Galatescu picked up another point when her opponent retired during their second set at No. 4.

The Pilots will continue West Coast Conference play next weekend with away matches against LMU on Saturday and Pepperdine on Sunday.
