CITY OF PORTLAND: How to pay your 2022 Portland arts tax

Tax

City of Portland issued the following announcement on Mar. 21.

The $35 Arts Education and Access Fund income tax, approved by Portland voters in 2012, is due April 18, 2022.

File and pay by credit card or ACH

Pay from your computer, smart phone or tablet at Portland Revenue Online. The process takes about five minutes and automatically files for you.

File and pay by check or money order

  • File online and choose to pay by mailing in a check with a voucher printed from the website.
  • Print the filing form using tax preparation software like H&R Block and TurboTax, and mail it in with a payment.
  • Download and print a tax year 2021 filing form – available in 11 languages – from the Revenue Division website.
Who pays

  • All adult Portland residents with income of $1,000 or more
  • Anyone who lived in Portland during part of 2021
  • Adults with income less than $1,000 during the tax year or who are below the federal poverty level may claim an exemption by filing the arts tax return.
How the City helps

  • This winter, the Revenue Division mailed tax returns and reminders to every Portland address.
  • An email reminder was recently sent to taxpayers who have previously provided an email address and had not already filed or paid by mid-February.
Because the arts tax is an income tax, there is no “bill”. Taxpayers must complete and file the arts tax return and pay the tax by April 18 to avoid a penalty.
