PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY: Regarding the Shooting near Campus Early this Morning

Announcement

Portland State University issued the following announcement on Apr. 4.

The Portland State community is saddened to learn that the epidemic of deadly gun violence that has plagued so many cities has hit close to home. A shooting took place at a neighboring business near SW 6th and College Ave. early this morning at around 1 a.m. resulting in the death of an unidentified woman.

PSU prioritizes the safety and well-being of our students and employees and our Campus Public Safety Officers are in contact with the Portland Police Bureau which is leading the investigation. We don’t have further information about the incident at this time and there is no ongoing threat to our campus.

We urge students in need of support to contact professionals at the Center for Student Health & Counseling (SHAC) at 503-725-2800. Employees can also seek help through the PSU Employee Assistance Program. The Campus Public Safety Office provides a safety escort for anyone who may feel unsafe. Call 503-725-4407 to request an escort.
