Stoel Rives Receives 2022 ‘Tipping the Scales’ Recognition for Promoting More Than 50% Women in 2022 Partnership Class

Stoel Rives, an AmLaw 200 firm, has been included in the Diversity & Flexibility Alliance’s (the “Alliance”) list of law firms “Tipping the Scales” in 2022, which recognizes firms that have promoted more than 50% women in its most recent partner class. The firm’s 2022 class included nine attorneys, six of whom were women. The Alliance released its 2022 New Partner Report and honored the “Tipping the Scales” recipients at its annual conference on November 4th. The women elevated to partner in 2022 include Andrea Canfield, Laura Kerr, Erica Valli, Ellen Ostrow, Kate Mathews, and Jessica Bayles.

“We are thrilled to be included on the ‘Tipping the Scales’ list for the second year in a row. It’s an honor to be recognized for our efforts to mentor, retain and promote women in our firm, which is a critical component of our ongoing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative,” said Melissa Jones, Stoel Rives’ Firmwide Managing Partner.

In addition to elevating six women to partnership in 2022, the firm benefits from several women in key positions of leadership, including Melissa Jones who became the firm’s second Firmwide Managing Partner in 2020, several Executive Committee members, Practice Group Leaders, Office Managing Partners, Industry Group Leaders, Chiefs and Directors.

The report, which was first released in 2012, is an annual compilation and examination of publicly released data from the organization’s members and the largest and top-grossing U.S. law firms, looking at the gender breakdown of attorneys promoted to partnership. The Alliance researched more than 200 law firms for its 2022 report, of which 57 had 50% or more women in their new partner classes, 10 fewer than in the previous year.
