In an exciting development, Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) is seeking Requests for Interest to activate O’Bryant Square transitionally while the permanent park design is finalized and funded.
O'Bryant Square was temporarily closed due to maintenance and safety concerns. Now, the City is seeking proposals from organizations interested in joining forces to reactivate and enhance the plaza in the interim.
PP&R will review proposals to transform O'Bryant Square into a lively and inclusive community gathering place while it awaits long term funding. The primary aim is to create a safe, welcoming, and accessible space that meets the diverse needs and desires of both Portland residents and visitors over the next 3-5 years. The City is open to innovative ideas and partnerships that can improve the park's amenities and programming.
Organizations with a passion for revitalization are encouraged to submit proposals outlining their vision, expertise, and plans for activating O'Bryant Square provisionally. The City is particularly interested in proposals that prioritize community engagement, sustainability, and equity. For details and further information regarding the Request for Interest, visit the following PDF:
The submission deadline is Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at 5:00pm.
Note: PP&R reserves the right to extend the RFI period. If an extension is issued, all submitted proposals will have the opportunity to use this extra time to update their proposals if desired.
By working with an excellent group of potential partners submitting proposals, the City of Portland hopes to restore O'Bryant Square as a vibrant center for the community while it awaits long term funding.
If you are an organization passionate about revitalizing public spaces and making a positive impact in Portland, this is an incredible opportunity to collaborate with the City in reactivating and improving a highly visible part of our community. Submit your proposal by the June 28 deadline to play a vital role in creating a dynamic interim plaza. Together, let's breathe new life into O'Bryant Square!
