West Hills Health & Rehabilitation emerged as the largest nursing home in Multnomah County in the first quarter of 2026, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) data shows.

CMS awarded West Hills Health & Rehabilitation an overall rating of 4 out of 5, surpassing Oregon’s statewide nursing home average of 3.1.
Laurelhurst Post Acute & Rehabilitation registered as the county’s second largest nursing home for the quarter, with 159 available beds. Regency Gresham Nursing & Rehabilitation Center placed third at 128 beds.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate that the nation’s older adults continue to increase in number compared to younger populations. From 2020 to 2024, the number of Americans aged 65 and older went up 13%, while individuals under 18 decreased by 1.7%. The country’s older population has expanded considerably in the past 100 years, climbing from 4.9 million people in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.
A report published in 2021 forecasts that roughly 28 million people in this demographic—almost half—will require long-term services and support, and more than a third may ultimately need nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
