WASHINGTON, D.C.— Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), a senior member of the Ways and Means Committee, released the following statement after his amendment to prevent Republicans’ repeal of critical clean energy provisions failed in the Ways and Means Committee markup: 

“Last week, more than 64 million Americans in the Northeast confronted a stark climate reality: face hazardous, choking, wildfire smoke outdoors, or shelter inside. 

Republicans are repealing the foundation of the most meaningful climate investment in our nation’s history.

We ought to be doing more to prepare for and mitigate the increasingly severe impacts of the climate crisis—not giving out tax breaks to big oil, the wealthy, and the well-connected.”
