The City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services advises the public to avoid the Willamette River around Foothills Park for 48 hours due to the possibility of increased bacteria in the water.
During scheduled maintenance and cleaning of electrical components, a mobile generator was deployed to keep a pump station at the Tryon Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant operating. The generator failed at approximately 10:15 a.m. on June 14 and was fixed within 15 minutes. An estimated 30,000 gallons of partially treated wastewater were discharged during the 15 minutes the generator was down. The wastewater had undergone primary treatment – screening, grit removal, and sedimentation – prior to discharge.
The City of Portland and Lake Oswego are working together on a plan to replace the aging Tryon Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. For more information about the project, visit the City of Lake Oswego’s Wastewater Treatment Facility webpage.
